What our guests say about our tours
"Off the beaten tracks!"
Amsterdam Odyssey is a real good choice, if you want to see something more than just the city center of Amsterdam, if you want to get off the beaten tracks, and see how locals are living and spending their time in Amsterdam. Absolutly recommended!
"Best off-side tourism tours"
We had a wonderful tour, exploring Amsterdam West, apart from tourism. Background information about the architecture and history about this part of the city, together with little “sweet” surprises made this customized tour very special. The team was very well prepared and created a perfect tour for us. THANKS AGAIN!!!!
Cruise Amsterdam’s canals deluxe style
For this private canal cruise we take you on board of a majestic saloon boat. The boat radiates grandeur, built in the early 20th century with oak, teak and mahogany. Still having its authentic vibe, nowadays the boat is equipped with modern comfort. It has an electric engine, making it a tranquil and clean canal ride. On warm days, the windows can be opened. On cold days, the heating ensures that you still have a pleasant tour. The boat is owned by Rederij de Jordaan.
Taking care of the inner spirit as well
While cruising Amsterdam’s canals, we will serve you drinks and snacks. There’s a wide range of non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks to choose from. Snacks include, among others, Dutch cheese, chocolate, and nuts. If you have any specific wishes on drinks and/or snacks, please let us know and we can arrange it for you.
Canal ring: Unesco World heritage
A private guide will accompany you on board to share stories with you about Amsterdam and the canals. Since 2010 the Canal ring is listed as a Unesco World heritage site.
Quote from the Unesco description: “The Amsterdam Canal District represents an outstanding example of a built urban ensemble that required and illustrates expertise in hydraulics, civil engineering, town planning, construction and architectural knowhow. In the 17th century, it established the model for the entirely artificial ‘port city’ as well as the type of Dutch single dwelling with its variety of façades and gables. The city is testimony, at the highest level, to a significant period in the history of the modern world.”
The authenticity and beauty of these canals appeal to both Amsterdammers and visitors. The Canal ring is a unique masterpiece of water management, city planning and architecture. We do understand you want to explore all this! By the time you start your canal cruise, you may have strolled around the area already. Once you are on board of your private boat, you find yourself literally amid the scenery. Being below street level and right in the middle of the canals, gives you a whole new, unique perspective on Amsterdam.
Deciding on the route
Amsterdam has got around 1600 canals with a total length of over 100 kilometer. We can adjust the length and route of your canal tour to your personal interests and itinerary. Are you staying along one of Amsterdam’s canals? We can pick you up right at your hotel, or decide on the best starting point together. The same goes for the drop off point: this can be anywhere fitting your programme.
Where is the starting point?
Since we customize each tour, the starting point and route will be adjusted to your itinerary and wishes.
Which boat types are available? And how to choose the ‘right’ boat?
Besides the classic saloon boat, we have two other boat tour options. The classic saloon boat is most suitable if you are looking for a deluxe private canal tour through Amsterdam.
Our standard canal tour is with one of the most common Amsterdam boats: an electric sloop of a comfortable size for your small group. Your guide is a skilled skipper as well.
Are you looking for a more authentic boat tour experience? Then a Plastic Whale boat might be most suitable for you. Once we are in touch to prepare your tour, we can talk all options through and decide what would be the best canal tour through Amsterdam for you.
I have particular interests and/or special needs. Can this tour be customized?
Yes. Please contact us, and we will be happy to come up with a tailor-made tour for you.
Is the tour suitable for young children?
This tour is suitable from the age of 12. In case you are interested in a boat tour with children under 12, please book through our family tours page.
Is this tour suitable for people with reduced mobility?
You have to be able to get on and off board of the boat.
The weather is bad, what happens now?
The classic saloon boat is covered and heated, so your canal cruise will be comfortable even when it rains. Amsterdam Odyssey tours will take place under any weather conditions, unless a formal warning regarding the weather has been issued by the Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI).
